Flogas-sponsored Kimberley Irwin from Drogheda shot her way to success as a member of the first Irish team to ever win the British Open Ladies DTL Championships, one of the major events of the competitive clay pigeon shooting calendar.
Kimberley and her fellow shootists Breda O’Halloran, Anne Marie Shiels, Berni Quinn and Maura Walsh faced teams from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. It was a fiercely contested event, with the Irish team eventually beating the England team by a single target. The scorelines : Ireland 1126, England 1125, followed by Northern Ireland with 1106, Wales on 1040 and Scotland bringing up the rear with 1024.
Kimberley also represented Ireland at the Home Countries DTL International at Bishops Mountain, Co. Kilkenny in July and the Home Countries Olympic Trap International at Courtlough in Dublin in August. They were runners up to England on both occasions.
Kimberley said:
“Thank you to Flogas for all their support and sponsorship! I am so proud to be part of the first Irish ladies team to win the British Open and to win by just one target made it all the sweeter! The competition was also top notch at the Home Countries Internationals and while we didn’t manage to win, we came close and it gives us something to aim for next year.
