Flogas is the proud sponsor of the ‘Alysha’, the boat used by Vartry Rowing club to secure its first ever win when it competed at the inaugural Boyne Rowing Race on Sunday 15th June 2014. The Race was part of the Irish Maritime Festival in Drogheda and was hosted by the Inver Copla Coastal Rowing club. Teams from Donegal, Wexford and Dublin in the 14 km race which commenced at Clogherhead and finished at the De Lacy Bridge in Drogheda.

Vartry Club’s all-male crew crossed the line in 1 hour and 20 minutes, over 6 minutes ahead of the second placed boat from Donegal. The victorious crew was George O’Brien, Joe Quinn, Michael O’Toole, Shay Dunne and the coxswain was Peter Dunne.

The first all-female rowing crew across the line were from Inver Copla and their time was 1 hour and 33 minutes. Their boat, ‘Bean Threasa’, was also sponsored by Flogas and the crew was Glenda Carter, Marissa Toner, Caroline Meegan, Lorraine McKeown and the coxswain was Gerry Hodgins.

George O’Brien, chairperson of Vartry Rowing Club, said, ““We are over the moon about our first victory as the club is less than a year old and we’ve been competing against some very experienced clubs and crews. We were feeling pretty strong as we came into the race off the back of a second place in the 92 mile Celtic Challenge on 2nd were competing against 21 other teams and we raised €10,000 for the RNLI Wicklow in the process.
